There seemed to be an SR boost phase right after placement where I gained more SR for winning. At 60% win rate I net +340 SR after 50 matches.
After boost phase ended my next 40 matches at 52.5% win rate netted me -6 SR.
At that point I knew grinding Ranked mode will not take me take me up to the next bracket anytime soon so I quit doing Ranked.
Unlike Heroes of the Storm, OW Ranked feels a little off.
In HotS, playing and winning above the expected win half lose half gains you positive gains over time.
In OW you stagnate at 55% win rate. Winning half and losing half in fact drops you rank the more you play.
The fact that they differentiate SR gains between team members feels bad.
In CSGO this differential is based on your actual SR compared to your team members which is meh ok
But in OW SR gained is largely based on how many 'index flags' you hit which has very little to do with winning or losing.
All in all I think Jeff Kaplan and Co. is over thinking how they should do ranked. Every other aspect of OW is polished to remove negative experiences as much as possible. But they fall short with Ranked mode.
I still feel the same as I did back in Season 2/3
If only OW did ranked like how Heroes of the Storm does it.
In a time of global crisis, an international task force of heroes banded together to restore peace to a war-torn world: OVERWATCH. Overwatch ended the crisis, and helped maintain peace in the decades that followed, inspiring an era of exploration, innovation, and discovery.
